FAMILY-RUN TREE CARE
Professional tree care for safer, healthier and better-kept outdoor spaces.

ABOUT US
For over 20 years, TreeHugger Tree Services has been a family-run business built on honest advice, dependable workmanship and a genuine passion for arboriculture.
What began as one man's vision has grown through the combined efforts of three generations of our family. Fathers, sons, grandfathers, wives, friends and family members have all played their part in shaping the company, helping us build a trusted reputation across Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and the surrounding areas.
Despite our growth over the years, our values have remained the same. We take pride in delivering professional tree care, treating every property with respect, and building lasting relationships with our customers. Rooted in family values and backed by decades of practical experience, TreeHugger Tree Services continues to care for trees and outdoor spaces with the same dedication, pride and attention to detail that it was founded on.
Our story
The story of Tree Hugger & Son Tree Services, from the early days to the trusted team we are today.
TreeHugger Tree Services was founded by Drew Patterson at the age of 40 after a successful career as a Postmaster. Believing in a new challenge and determined to build something of his own, Drew enrolled at Broomfield College and achieved a Distinction in the Level 3 National Award in Arboriculture. Armed with his qualifications, a handful of tools, and plenty of determination, he began advertising for work in every way imaginable. Some ideas worked, some didn't, but his commitment never wavered. Through hard work, honest service, and a genuine passion for the industry, Drew built a loyal client base that continues to support the business today, with many customers still returning year after year for their tree care needs.
Demand grew through word of mouth, and the business soon reached a point where we needed to grow the team. We brought on our first crew members, invested in proper equipment, and built the foundations for the company we are today. That next chapter included Ross Patterson, now Director, and close family friend Craig Porter — both becoming part of the team as the business continued to grow.
Over the years, we have taken great pride in helping train and develop the next generation of arborists. Several of our apprentices have gone on to build successful careers within the industry and still stop by from time to time to catch up and lend a hand when needed. Former apprentices include Josh Weedon, Lewis Truman and Lawrence Pilkington, all of whom have progressed into independent roles within the arboricultural sector. Today, we continue that tradition with our current apprentice, Jake Halliday, who is developing his skills and gaining hands-on experience alongside our team.
Hundreds of happy customers later, the company had grown significantly, but at its heart it remained the same local, family-run team built on hard work, honesty and quality workmanship. Having successfully established TreeHugger Tree Services and built a reputation he could be proud of, Drew decided it was time to retire and pass the reins on to Ross and his wife, Ellie Patterson. Today, Ross and Ellie continue to build on the foundations laid by Drew, combining traditional family values with a modern approach to customer service and arboriculture. Ross oversees the day-to-day operations, while Ellie plays an active role both on and off site. As well as helping to manage administration, customer enquiries and scheduling, she regularly works alongside the team carrying out practical tree work and operating equipment. Together, they remain committed to providing professional, reliable tree care and maintaining the personal service that has been at the heart of TreeHugger Tree Services since day one.
